Preparing to Write a Spell

So I was going to begin writing a spell when I have realized that I did not get to share with everybody how I prepare for creating a spell. I am aware that there are many different ways, however this is my own. Feel free to borrow and use my ideas and feel free to message me to add more information!

In this example, I will show you step-by-step how I plan to create a spell in order to help me get motivated.

Step One: Intent

It’s pretty hard to prepare a spell if you have absolutely no clue what you want the spell to do. Perhaps it is a spell to focus more, or a spell to help with fortune. Perhaps it is a luck spell, or a spell of self love, or maybe even a hex (which I highly recommend baby witches stay away from, at least until you practice for a while and are able to protect yourself properly) either way, intent is key.

What I do, is before I even worry about the spell, I focus on the outcome. What is it exactly do I want this spell to help me with? What do I need to do in order to get the outcome I wish? What are the drawbacks of this spell?

Remember. CASTING A SPELL DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL HAPPEN. IT DOES, HOWEVER, INCREASE THE PROBABILITY OF SOMETHING HAPPENING IN YOUR FAVOR. SO IF IT DOES HAPPEN, THERE HAS TO BE A CHAIN REACTION

For this example, I will look at the subject at hand, MOTIVATION. What do I need this spell for? This case it is simple, I simply wish to be motivated. What are the drawbacks of this spell? Chances are after the burst of motivation and energy, I will “crash” in the sense that I will feel drained.

So we fix it. Let’s not focus on boosting the energy, but on WHY I need motivation. TO GET THINGS DONE. So now I can see if a spell on getting things done has drawbacks. I cannot think of anything besides it being rushed and stressful. So let’s add that. TO GET THINGS DONE WELL AND WITH EASE. Seems much better and more exact than to “Be Motivated” because now there is an intent as well as an area to direct energy.

STEP TWO: ORGANIZING

Clear your space and prepare your writing utensils, book, or anything you plan on using. Decide what you wish to use in the spell. What is your specialty? How do you plan on putting it to use? Do your research and see what could work with the spell. Try not to over complicate it but everything should have a purpose in a spell.

For this example, I use tarot and hedge work. Since hedge work is very iffy and I wish for this spell to be able to be used by everyone, let’s focus on tarot. Best thing to do is find a card that’s meaning has relevance to the spell and work with it. For this spell we will use Magician, Eight of Pentacles, Ten of Wands, The Fool, and Sun . Look at the cards and find out ways you can use them. Are you able to have them at hand? Can you print them out? What is more convenient for you?

What colors connects to this spell? Find something that calms you down. Personalize it! In this example we will use an Orange Candle, Light Blue candle, Yellow candle, and a White Candle. If you want, a purple candle as well.

Sigils also work wonders in spell work! Making them yourself is most effective however if you wish to borrow one you saw online, go for it! Be sure to ask the original creator for permission though! Nobody appreciates it when their stuff is stolen. These people work hard, and their wishes should be respected so it is not the end of the world if they say no!

Does your magic revolve around the lunar calendar? What day should the spell be cast? What time? Is there a ritual or routine you do before a spell? Prepare for that! What about after the spell? Do you have an after-ritual or routine for that?

**TIP: White candles are great to have because they can substitute any color! just take a toothpick or whatever and carve the color on the candle and BOOM!**

Keep in mind that the candles do not have to be big, fancy, or expensive. Cheap tealight candles from the dollar store works wonders, or maybe find a way to make it yourself!

STEP THREE: PUTTING IT TOGETHER

Gather all the things you have decided to put in your spell and find a way to put it together and make it work for you!  Now is the time to make last minute decisions. Do you want to add a small chant? Go for it! Do you wish to write it in another alphabet? Do it! Keep it in your native language? Go ahead. Now is time to put it together

EXAMPLE ON HOW I HAVE CREATED THE SPELL. FEEL FREE TO COPY THIS INTO YOUR SPELL BOOK

You will need

  • Printed out Tarot cards (Magician, Sun, Fool, Eight of Pentacles, Ten of Wands
  • a white candle
  • purple candle
  • yellow candle
  • light blue candle
  • orange candle
  • relaxation sigil
  • a bowl of pure filtered water
  • a sigil

Place the cards surrounding the bowl of water. Place the:

White candle over the Fool

Purple candle over the Ten of Wands

Orange candle over the Eight of Pentacles

Yellow candle over the  Magician

Light Blue candle over the Sun

Now, take the sigil you created and pass it over the smoke of the candles. after you do so, drip a bit of wax onto the sigil, and then place it in the water. Take a moment to focus on the effects go into the water, and dip your fingers in it.

Dab a bit on your forehead and state “My mind is clear. Let me focus.”

Dab a bit onto your throat and state “My voice is clear, let my thoughts go out smoothly.”

Dab a bit onto your chest and state “My heart is clear, may I love what I do.”

Dab a bit onto your wrists and state “My body is capable, may I carry out my plans with ease.”

Finally, dab a bit onto the top of your feet or legs and state “I will carry out my plans, may intuition lead the way”

Dip a bit of wax into the water and let it sit. Once the candles burn out, pour out the water outside and burn the sigil.

I hope you enjoyed this small guide to how I create my spells! I hope you enjoy your day!
